Arthur F. Filber

   Arthur F. "Art" Filber, 82, of the town of Wayne, was called home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 with his family at his side.

   Art was born on May 30, 1933 in Milwaukee, the son of the late Franklin and Olga (Zemke) Filber, and on June 7, 1958 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Volkmann at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wauwatosa.

   Art was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Allenton where he taught Sunday school. He was also on the Town of Wayne Planning Commission Board, a lifelong member of the local Teamsters Union and a lifelong member of the National Farmers Organization where he was recognized to preserve the family farm. Art proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He then went to work on the Great Lakes on an iron ore carrier as a fireman and an oiler. Afterwards he took up working for Yahr's Ready Mix, where he truly enjoyed pouring concrete for contractors. He was often requested by the contractors and known as the fearless driver to get concrete in places few would venture to go. Above all else, his greatest passion was farming with his family.

   Art was a steward of the land, being conscientious of what he was placing on his crops and avoided using chemicals. He appreciated the little things in life, he embraced all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty. Art enjoyed deer hunting, gardening, a good home cooked meal and talking agriculture. He always put his children first and worked hard to make sure they received a Christian education and graduated from High School. He loved Harley Davidson's, Ford's and John Deere's. Art will fondly be remembered as a caring and compassionate husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

   Those Art leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Marilyn Filber; four children, Paul Filber of West Bend, Peter (Kyle) Filber of Brookfield, Philip Filber of Allenton and Patti (Scott) Derge of Kewaskum; ten grandchildren, Shannon Schutz, Eric (Miriah) Hartfiel, Adam Hartfiel and Justin Hartfiel, Emily and Madisyn Filber, Harrison Filber, Olivia, Eli and Ava Filber; six great-grandchildren, Trevor and Tyler Schutz, Gabby, Eric Jr. and Grace Hartfiel and Jaylyn Hartfiel; a brother, Edward (Jeanine) Filber; a son-in-law, Timothy Hartfiel; a special friend, Jamie Schutz; a dear cousin, Mary Schallert and many other relatives, friends and neighbors.

   In addition to his parents, Art was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Hartfiel; his brother, James Filber; his daughter-in-law, Janice Filber and his grandson Ben Derge.

   Funeral services for Art will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Allenton. Rev. Steven Bode will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Art's family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

    The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff at Cedar Crossings Rehabilitation, the Kohlsville and Kewaskum Rescue Squads, Deputy Bill Niehus and the personnel from the Washington County Sheriff's Department.
