Welcome to the memorial page for

Quintin C. Schowalter

October 25, 1925 ~ November 24, 2016 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Quintin C. Schowalter, 91, of Jackson, Wisconsin, passed away on November 24, 2016 at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ.

He was born October 25, 1925 to the late Alwin and Frieda (née Dotter) Schowalter in Jackson, Wisconsin. Quintin graduated from West Bend High School, and the University of Wisconsin Madison with a degree in Agriculture. He served in the Army and was stationed in Korea. He married Ann Marie Rath on August 27, 1950 at Christ Lutheran Church in Jackson. He taught agriculture at Marshall High School for six years.

He was called to the ministry, attending Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa and ordained into the ministry in 1961 in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin. He had a special interest in serving rural communities, serving as Lutheran pastor in the Wisconsin communities of Marion at St. Paul’s Dupont, St. Peter’s Big Falls, and Cambridge at East Koshkonong. In Illinois he served at Immanuel Lutheran in Compton, and Prince of Peace in St. Joseph. He also helped establish a mission congregation in Mahomet IL.

He and Ann Marie retired in Jackson in 1990, living on the family homestead where he grew up. He led a very active retirement which included extensive travel, singing in a chorus, recording and sharing family history and genealogy. He loved sitting in his front yard, enjoying his prairie garden with Ann Marie. He had shared his love of the natural world his whole life, taking his family and church youth groups camping in many state and national parks. He had a great sense of curiosity and was always eager to seek out new adventures with his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and tireless caregiver to Ann Marie for many years.

Those Quintin leaves behind to cherish his memory include his children Karlene (Dale Kennedy) Schowalter of Tucson, Arizona, John (Vanessa) Schowalter of Champaign, Illinois, and Frieda Schowalter of Madison, Wisconsin; grandchildren Allana (Michael) Miller, Carrie and Rachel (Ladd Arundel) Schiff, and Hans and Emily Barkei.
