Gerald R. “Jerry” Vetter, 71, of Beechwood, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk with his family at his side.

He was born on August 13, 1941, in Sheboygan, the son of the late Leland and Vivian (Staege) Vetter and on July 29, 1967, he was united in marriage to Carol Schladweiler at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in St. Michaels.

Jerry served his country in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Scott, the Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post 384 Kewaskum and a former member of the Fohl-Martin American Legion Post 483 Allenton.

Jerry enjoyed golfing, deer hunting and spending time at the cabin up north. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. They meant everything to him. Jerry will be deeply missed by his wife, his family and by all who knew him.

Those Jerry leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 45 years, Carol; two children, Jerry (Christine) Vetter of Plymouth and Brenda (Dennis) Miller of Random Lake; five grandchildren, Wyatt Miller, Zachary and Lucas Vetter, Taylor and Brady Ludvik; two brothers, Dennis (Jeanette) Vetter of Iron River and Dale Vetter of Beechwood; five sisters, Jeaneen (John) Kudek of Kewaskum, Gloria (Joseph) Boden of Black River Falls, Gelane (Carl) Firme of Sun Prairie, Elaine (Frank) Poos of Beechwood and Diane (Jack) Jaeger of Campbellsport; two brothers-in-law, Harold (Kaye) Schladweiler and Jerome Jr. (Anita) Schladweiler both of Kewaskum; four sisters-in-law, Helen (Floyd) Kertscher of Armstrong, Mary (Timothy “Butch”) Vrana of West Bend, JoAnne (Greg) Arndt of Random Lake and Joyce (Gary) Nelson of Plymouth, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded by his nephew, Joey Boden and his beloved special canine friend, Boots.

Funeral services for Jerry were held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Scott with Rev. Kurt Ziemann officiating.

Following the service, military honor rites were performed by members of the Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post 384 Kewaskum. Burial was at 10:00 a.m. on Friday in the church cemetery.

The Vetter family greeted relatives and friends at the church on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services.

The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum was entrusted with Jerry’s arrangements.

Jerry’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to Rev. Kurt Ziemann, the entire health care staff of Froedtert Health Care and Kathy Hospice. Your compassion and care as we journeyed with Jerry has touched us more than you know.

My deepest sympathies to the entire Vetter family. I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Jerry, but from what I could see is he was a loving husband, wonderful father and extremely proud grandfather. And he was a deeply loved and respected man.
