John Frizzell Obituary

On Wednesday morning, March 6, 2024, John Douglas Frizzell was called home to be with Jesus. John was surrounded by the love and comfort of family as he made his heavenly transition.

To put the life of John into a few short paragraphs cannot be done. Although this is an obituary, we are not saying that John died. Instead, we are telling the story of how John truly lived.

He was born in snowy Stevens Point, WI on December 7, 1945, to the late John William and Velma (nee Kjer) Frizzell, the youngest of four children. He graduated from Amherst High School in 1963, and then from Northland College in Ashland in 1967 with a degree in education.

John taught high school science for a few years and coached several sports as well. Later, he sought new challenges and became employed by the American Dairy Association in membership sales, then Diversey Wyandotte Corporation, and finally, real estate with Coldwell Banker. His career, however, was not the most important thing to John.

On July 19, 1992, John married his forever love, Jean Kucik, formerly Bellamy, in West Bend.  John brought three children into the marriage, Valerie, John, and Jennifer.  Jean brought two children into the marriage, Bradley and Laura. John willingly and happily became a father to all five children.

John had a love for all sports. He was a die-hard Packer fan and participated in multiple fantasy football leagues over the years. John knew how to relax, whether it was with his Card Club friends playing Sheepshead, Sheepshead online with family, or in the serenity of nature watching birds. A favorite vacation spot for John and Jean in later years was Door County where hiking and bird watching were plentiful. He liked to go deer hunting, but we’re not sure if that was more for hunting or card playing. Above all this, John enjoyed being with his family. Cheering his grandchildren on during their sporting events was always a highlight of his week.

In his professional life, John was a teacher; in his personal life, he taught us how life should be lived. John just had this natural care and genuine concern for others. He was a ‘Gentle Spirit’ with a deep faith, love, and trust in God. Few knew how sick he really was, as he never let it be known.

John was one of the original members of Kettlebrook Church and particularly enjoyed his roles as usher and greeter.  John was known by everyone as the man with the big smile and even bigger hugs.  In addition to his work during the services, John was also involved in small groups and community men’s bible studies, leading many of them.

The memory of his faith, love, and big hugs live on through the lives of his family, including his wonderful wife and best friend of 31 years, Jean; his five children, Valerie (Brendan) Gaffney, John (Rachel) Frizzell II, Bradley Kucik, Jennifer Frizzell, and Laura Kucik; his five grandchildren who he loved to spoil, Seth, Molly, and Emily Frizzell, Robbie Kucik, and Trinity Jacobs; and sisters-in-law, Ida and Roxanne Frizzell, and Mary Lou (Bruce) Mate.

He was met at Heaven’s Gates by his parents, and siblings Lucy Villa, Thomas Frizzell, and William Frizzell; and by his brother-in-law, Robert (Darlene) Bellamy.
