Harold J. Backhaus

Harold J. Backhaus, 81, of Random Lake, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Kindred Hearts in Plymouth. He was born on December 23, 1936 in Sheboygan, the son of the late Ernst and Cecelia Backhaus (nee Slavik). On May 16, 1959, Harold was united in marriage to Rose Ernst at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. He was a factory worker at The West Bend Company for 33 years. Harold enjoyed taking things apart, broken or not, and putting them back together. He also loved woodworking, fishing, taking his boat out on Beechwood Lake, hobby farming, gardening, and old tractors.

Those Harold leaves behind to cherish his memory include his five children, Brenda (Dave) Eisentraut, Bonnie (Dan) Heidemann, Donald Backhaus, Betty (Scott Nelson) Meyer, and Dennis (Leslie) Backhaus; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Rose; his infant son, Harold Jr; and his siblings, Helen Deils, Teresa Kelling, Robert Backhaus, and Bernadette Mondloch.

A memorial service in remembrance of Harold will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 6:00 pm at Myrhum Patten Miller & Kietzer Funeral Home, 215 Forest Ave. Kewaskum, WI. 53040. Harold’s family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home from 4:00 pm until the time of the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated and will be put towards a charity to be decided at a later date.
