Irene F. Hayes

Irene F. Hayes, 95, of Fond du Lac, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at Woodlands Senior Park in Fond du Lac.

Irene was born on October 26, 1922, the daughter of the late Herbert and Florence (nee Oldenburg) Schrank. She was raised on their farm near Caldwell, WI and went to high school in Waterford. Irene graduated from Whitewater Teachers College in 1944 and taught for 22 years at Lomira High School. On November 30, 1947, she was united to Henry W. “Sam” Hayes. Sam preceded Irene in death on August 22, 2014. Irene was involved in leadership in Grange, 4-H, and missions and food hospitality at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lomira. Irene maintained beautiful flower gardens and hosted groups from all over the world. She was a wonderful partner to Sam on the farm and a loving mom, grandma, and great-grandma.

Those Irene leaves behind to cherish her memory include two sons, Paul (Patty) Hayes and Steven (Wendy) Hayes both of the town of Byron; eight grandchildren, Tyra (Donald) Poyner, Elizabeth (Ross) Fiersten, Rebecca (Austin) Batalden, Benjamin (Jamie) Posthuma, Jason (Lorraine) Posthuma, Todd (Emily) Hayes, Tristan (Sherri) Hayes and Teagan Hayes (Brace Hayden); eight great-grandchildren, Henry, Eddie and Oliver Hayes, Andreas, Victoria, Jackson, and Annalise Posthuma, and Levi Batalden; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hayes of Fond du Lac, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Irene was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Hayes; a daughter, Lynne Hayes; two sisters, Vera Schrank and Carol (Edward) Raht; a brother, William (Lois) Schrank; two sisters-in-law, Juen and Marjorie Hayes and two brothers-in-law, James Hayes and Robert Hayes.

A memorial service for Irene will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 5, 2018, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lomira. Rev. Rom Pegram will officiate and a family burial of Irene's cremains will be in Ebenezer Cemetery in the town of Lomira.

Irene’s family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Trinity Cemetery Fund is appreciated.
