Phillip E. Schmidt

September 19, 1935 ~ February 25, 2015 (age 79) 79 Years Old


   Phillip E. "Phil" Schmidt, 79, of West Bend, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at his home in West Bend surrounded by his family.

   Phillip was born on August 19, 1935 in Milwaukee the son of the late Edward and Marian (Fessler) Schmidt, and on April 23, 1955 he was united in marriage to Margaret "Marge" Ansay at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Washington.  Margaret preceded Phillip in death on March 29, 2001.

   Phil was a retired member of the Beechwood Fire Department which he had joined in 1976.  He was a former member of Beechwood Night Flyers Snowmobile Club, Kewaskum Historical Society, Milwaukee Fire Historical Society, and active member of Socialable Singles.  He was an avid collector of fire trucks and took great pleasure in lighting his trees for the holidays at his former residence in Beechwood.  His generosity and willingness to lend a hand were known to all.  Phil’s presence was larger than life and will be remembered for his vitality and how he lived life on his own terms. 

  Those Phil leaves behind to cherish his memory include his children; Debra Stoneman of Waldo, Patricia (Terry) Vetter of Beechwood, Michael Schmidt (Mary Kucharski) of West Bend, and Carol (Jeff) Nigh of Hartland; grandchildren, Nicole (Mike) Danielson, Brad Vetter, Robert Stoneman, Alyssa Nigh, Alex Nigh and great-granddaughter Jada Danielson.  He is survived by his sister Lucille Warzyn and brothers-in-law Werner Schurman and Paul (Sarah) Ansay.  Phil also leaves behind his faithful companion Rex.

   Phil was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marge and their infant daughter Jean Ellen.  He was additionally preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Marian, and father and mother–in-law Clemens and Dorothy Ansay; sister Bea Schurman, brothers, William Schmidt and Donald Schmidt; brother in law, Walter Warzyn, and sister in law, Agnes Schmidt. 

   Funeral services for Phil will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Kewaskum.  The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Saturday, March 7, 2015, from 10:00 am to 1pm with a Memorial Mass to follow at 1pm.

 Cremation has taken place so that he may join his cherished wife Marge.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial funds to any of the following are appreciated:  Stars and Stripes Wisconsin Honor Flight, Beechwood Fire Department or Threshold, Inc.
