Roger R. Vetter

   Roger R. Vetter, 76, of Beechwood, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk.

   He was born on June 26, 1938, in Sheboygan, the son of the late Ruben and Veila (Staege) Vetter, and on June 16, 1962 he was united in marriage to Elaine Bruessel at St. John Lutheran Church in West Bend.

   Roger proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Roger was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Scott where he served as chairman and financial secretary. He belonged to the Beechwood Fire Department for over 50 years, serving as the Chief for 15 years as well as being active in a variety of offices. He also organized and served on the Beechwood First Responders. Roger was very active in the community as a member of the Beechwood Athletic Club for 16 years as well as a member of the Beechwood Sportsman's Club serving in various offices. Roger was also a member of the Army Reserves until 1964.

   Roger was a licensed cheese maker for 45 years. After retiring, he returned to Beechwood Cheese part time for seven years. He enjoyed playing softball, dart ball, bowling, shooting pool, ice fishing, deer hunting and was an avid bird lover who loved feeding the birds. Roger also liked having a 'meeting of the brothers" where they would hangout at Jims workshop.

   He enjoyed traveling with Elaine, especially the many trips to Colorado and Door County. They also spent many enjoyable days at their cabin. Roger will fondly be remembered as one who enjoyed spending time watching his grandchildren participate in a variety of different sports and activities. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and by all who knew him.

   Those Roger leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 52 years, Elaine; two children, Amy (Don) Nelson of Omro and Michael (Annette) Vetter of Beechwood; four grandchildren, Amanda (David) Wheeler, Adam Nelson and Serena and Chloe Vetter; three brothers, James Vetter (special friend, Marlene Heberer), Rick (Brenda) Vetter and Terrance (Patricia) Vetter all of Beechwood; two sisters, Charleen Barutha of Kewaskum and Yvonne (David) Wietor of West Bend; two sisters-in-law, Joyce (Mark) Kral of Kewaskum and Alice (Donald) Voss of Broomfield, Colorado, other relatives and friends.

   In addition to his parents and mother and father-in-law, Roger was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Charles Dreher and Alvin Barutha, and a nephew Maxim Vetter.

   Funeral services for Roger were held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2014, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Scott where fire departments had an honorary walk through at 6:30 p.m. Rev. Kurt Ziemann officiated and burial with military honor rites was at 10:00 a.m. on Friday in the church cemetery.

   Roger's family greeted relatives and friends at the church on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services.

   Memorials to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Kathy Hospice are appreciated.

   The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum was entrusted with Roger's arrangements.

   Roger's family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Sammis, Dr. Hall, Dr. Mooney and their staff, and Kathy Hospice for the tender care provided to Roger, as well as Rev. Kurt Ziemann, Rev. Mark Eckert and Rev. Troy Swenson for their prayers and visits.
