Born in Milwaukee, WI on January 11, 1928, he was the son of the late Birnam Dow and Anita (nee Giese) Keiding and her late husband Andrew.

He was a member of the Shriners, the Masons, and Immanuel United Church of Christ Church. Bill and Shirley enjoyed traveling together, reading and spending time with friends.
