Gordie was always there to help another educator. When the day was extra stressful Gordie's smile and good humor lightened the day. Sending prayers of peace and healing to his family and friends.

Middle school was so long ago, but I vividly remember his kindness and sincerity when he would ask me how I was adjusting after I moved to Plymouth during my sixth grade year. I also remember his goofy sense of humor! He will certainly be missed.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you; Susan, Lindsey and Kristi. Gordie was my teacher at Riverview between 1971-1973, a very long time age. But truly amazing teacher/people come into your life and leave a lasting impression. Gordie was that kind of person, he will be greatly missed. My sympathies, Cindy.

Dearest Sue, Lindsay and Krysti,
I have no words, but as you know me well, I will find them. I was shocked and profoundly sad at the news of Gordie's passing. He was a beloved figurehead for Riverview, its staff, and students, and will remain forever as such. Every single person mentioning his name did so with such love and affection. What he did for all of those students is imprinted upon their brains. What a gift and mutual love he had for them all.
I am also profoundly sad that Gordie has been taken from his beloved family, and his beloved grandchildren. I love that they called him Bubba and I am certain he enriched their lives with deep caring and love. I am sad for all of you. I am hoping to see you soon. I am confident you will care for each other at this difficult time.
With much love and affection to you....

My funniest memory was receiving a call about Melissa's lost glasses. Gordie figured they were in a messy students locker. Imagine his total surprise when he looked into her well organized neat locker. He told me in all his years he had never seen such a well kept locker. We had a good laugh about that. I also want to tell you Sue that Melissa took Spanish from you but not in her senior year. When she went to Ohio State to test for language credits, she said" see you in 10 seconds". Well it was more than 10 seconds and she received 6 credits. Both of you impacted our older children in so many ways. Thank you. Our deepest condolences, Marshall & Barbara Ernst & Family

Gordy was the embodiment of Bob Dylan's song, May you Stay Forever Young. That is what enabled him to make 41 years with middle schoolers. It was his attitude - Yes, I am grown up but still mostly a kid. He was always ready to do anything for and with a colleague, like sing and dance in a 4-H skit. My sympathy to Sue, Lindsay, Krysti and family.

I am a former student. I was a student in Riverview between 1992-1995 and I still remember him. (I point out the year so that way you realize how long ago it was that I was one of his students and he has made a lasting impression on me) He was such a happy guy, so nice and easy to talk to. A really great soul. I am so sorry for your loss.

To the family of this wonderful man/teacher/friend to many.
He was my teacher in middle school at Riverview and when I had his class he would bring in the sock puppet unfortunately I forgot his name.
My daughter also went through her middle school years with him also minus the puppet.
Our condolences to the family on this very sad day.
Keep his spirit alive and remember him at every moment.
May he rest in peace but watch over his family and friends
God bless
