My deepest condolences to the family - it's only today, when I went to Stan's Facebook page - that I discovered he has passed away. I always thought I would see him at least one last time at an ag meeting somewhere. There are so many things I wish I could still say to Stan. I first met Stan many years ago through AAEA, and then at World Ag Expo in California. As he did with so many others in his life, he took me under his wing and became a welcome face, a mentor, and a dear friend. I always looked forward to seeing Stan and his wife at various events. Stan was always so passionate about agriculture, about ag journalism/communications, about his family and about nurturing the next generation -- in both his personal and professional life. I realize today would have been his birthday, so I realize today his family is probably missing him even more. Big hugs to the family, and a toast to Stan -- my dear friend, who enriched my life and will never be forgotten.

I am very sorry to learn of Stan's passing. I always looked forward to seeing him at farm writer events and drawing on his wealth of knowledge about agricultural journalism and communication. He always encouraged me to stay the course and valued the work of agricultural communications instructors such as myself in helping the industry prepare for the future. And I know he had a special place in his heart for Canada and the relationship between Canadians and Americans. He spoke of it often and always made me feel welcome at US events. I will truly miss his warm and friendly ways.

Our sincere condolences to the Bird Family.  As a former Chairman of World Ag Expo and volunteer for many years,  it was a privilege to have known a man as great as Stan Bird.  I very much enjoyed every moment that we could spend time talking about the Dairy business and marketing of ag shows in general. What a brilliant Man. He will be missed but never forgotten.  Thank you Stan for all the wonderful experiences we had together.

My condolences to the Bird family.  Stan was an inspiration and role model for all of us in ag media.  Always a kind word, a big smile or a friendly, firm handshake whether you were a colleague or competitor.  The industry has lost another legend.  Rest in peace, my friend.

Kathy and Bird family,

I too am deeply saddened to have learned about your loss. Stan was a fantastic friend and an incredible advocate for the agriculture industry. I remember walking around with him at trade shows. It would take almost the entire session to make it from one side of a room to the next. Stan knew everyone and everyone knew Stan. He had time for each person, both young and old, and greeted them with a warm smile and firm handshake. It was like walking around with the agriculture version of Michael Jordan. He was a celebrity and I was his sidekick. He loved putting people together. I remember him saying “You just have to meet this person” and then I would learn how Stan and he or she had worked together for years prior. That happened more than I can count. It was like being a member of a very special club, “The Stan Bird Fan Club”. I was happy to be a member. Stan taught me volumes about appreciating the past and incorporating it within future materials. He was a teacher who made those around him better and I am better for knowing him. Although we had lost touch, I still think of him often. He will always be one of my favorite people and I will never forget his wonderful smile!

Dear Kathy and Family -  thank you for your notification of Stan's passing.  I thought of him several times this past week while I was at World Dairy Expo - just when I least expected, he would pop out of no where and greet me with a hug and at least one story from the past!  I did look for him again this year - and so was very saddened and surprised by the news of his passing.  He was a man of conviction and dedication to his passion and love: the dairy industry and the beautiful cow!  I learned a lot from Stan and know he will be missed by many.  Our prayers are with you all - John and Bonnie Mohr

Stan was a "tough old bird" handling the advertising for the World Ag Expo for many years! He was a veteran of ag marketing and communications and will be missed by our industry. May his family know the pride he took in his work and that he was well respected.
My heart is with you all.

I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Stan Bird. When I assumed the position of General Manager of the International Agri-Center in Tulare, CA in 1990, Stan was one of the first people I met and one of the most influential and creative individuals with whom I have ever worked. I enjoyed his fresh perspective, upbeat spirit, passion for all sports, and genuine love of friends and family. During my fifteen years as general manager of what grew to become the World Ag Expo, many of the great communication tools, customer service techniques, and methods to grow the show were the brainchild of Stan Bird. I will always remember our rounds of golf and the subsequent hours sitting with notepads as we shared marketing ideas and brainstormed how to make the farm show bigger and better. Stan's love of the orange jacket volunteers in Tulare was unequaled. In my life there are many people that have made a big difference in my professional success, but only a few with the personal and professional impact of Stan Bird. Kathy and I and our entire family will miss Stan deeply.
